buddha hand cultivar oolong


This is a unique, traditional cultivar that has become increasingly rare to find. It is called Buddha Hand for it's hand-sized leaves and or the aroma which is said to resemble that of the long, finger-like citrus fruit of the same name.

We got this tea in 2016, and the roast was too heavy to drink. We decided to put it away for the time being, and wait until it settled. As of April of 2019, the tea is excellently matured.


The 2016 roasting has integrated well into the tea. Although the overall character is certainly roasty, it is well balanced. Other notes of ripe fruit, cereal and cocoa show up in the aroma, and the sweet aftertaste lingers long in the mouth. It is a heavily roasted tea with a medium to heavy bodied broth. It is very well rounded. There is not much stock left, and this tea is perfectly settled right now. I believe it will continue to age very well. Roasted oolong fans, get some while you can.
