Story

A tea of many names, Oriental Beauty is sometimes called Bai Hao Oolong, Eastern Beauty, Dongfang Meiren, Five Colors Oolong, Formosa Oolong, and, in Taiwanese, Braggart's Tea (Phong Hong Te).

It is an intentionally bug bitten, open leaf oolong created in Taiwan. It is bitten by a small green leaf-hopper, and the bite-wound causes a sweetness in the leaf. Then the young leaves are plucked by hand and oxidized rather heavily to coax out the natural sweetness in the tea. The characteristic of this tea is it's attractive honey aroma and sweet taste.

This is our standard Oriental Beauty, as contrasted by the much more expensive Special Reserve Oriental Beauty from Beipu. It doesn't have the finesse of the fancier tea, but has a stronger flavor and bolder aroma. It is grown in Pinglin, where we have been sourcing our standard Oriental Beauty for many years. Character of Pinglin Oriental Beauty is fruity, juicy and sweet.

Description

The dry leaf gives off a sweet muscatel aroma. Brewed, this tea has notes of fruit and rose with a honey undertone in the scent. Broth is golden-amber and light bodied, with a soft juicy character in the mouth.

Refreshingly clean finish leads to a gently mouthwatering aftertaste. This is an easygoing, sweet oolong tea.
