Royal Lishan High Mountain 2024 Winter
From high up on Lishan, this tea has the coveted high mountain complexity and softness that makes the style so beloved. It is also made by a careful, poetic tea maker who was able to get the dazzling bouquet 'into the soup' which requires a deft hand.
Brews up light golden yellow and visibly viscous. The broth gently makes itself known with a sweet cushy mouthfeel, and fills the mouth with a bouquet of elegant floral and herbal tones. It then travels to the back of the palate and warms the throat in a way that just melts tension, the aroma then vaporizing to linger long after the swallow. In a way it feels like drinking the purest spring water.
What hit me the first time I drank this tea was the voluptuous gardenia and lilac tones that create a tight, focused harmony in the scent of this tea. The second time I drank it the fullness of its buttery broth dazzled me, and I felt it was not only a elegant tea, but also a luxurious one. The third time I drank it there was a delicate note of sweet basil leading me to notice its softness, and the broth felt like silk rippling on my tongue.
As I'm writing this, I don't know what else this tea will have to show, but it has told me it has a depth of stories to tell. It is not an ordinary high mountain oolong, and that's exactly what we're looking for with any tea at this price point.
