The Jolly Roaster’s Water Sprite 2024
This Water Sprite (Shui Xian) was grown in Pinglin and roasted by the same Jolly Roast Master that does our Traditional Buddha Hand. He also oversaw production of this tea which, with the combination of excellent weather conditions and superior skills, turned out absolutely fantastic. The Shui Xian cultivar is an old world cultivar that is mostly grown in Wuyi, and this tea is generally closer to the style of those old world teas than modern Taiwanese oolong.
This traditional roasted oolong has a classic nutty profile with more mysterious, deep foresty aromas in the background that seem to typify carefully roasted oolong tea. However, it’s tea that is better described by what it can do than what it tastes like. The broth impacts the tongue with a broad, rich pillowy feel that immediately fills the entire mouth. A nice sinking mouthfeel transforms into powerful salivation after the broth is swallowed, and the tea finishes with an excellent Yun in the back of the mouth/throat. This is an awesome tea, with both strength and nuance.
