Shan Lin Xi High Mountain 2025 Spring
Athletic and agile tea that falls on the umami side taste-wise. Bright aromas of citrus-y fruits (lemon and passionfruit) pop first, with rich savory egg tart in the base. Broth spreads out with a fervor, coating the mouth with a mineral thickness and leaving behind a generous lingering aroma which evaporates off the back of the upper palate and fills the mouth with a plume of floral-fruity scent. Moving to the second infusion I start to notice delicate piney notes and some kind of wildflower at the very top end.
Broth is zippy on the tongue, bringing forth plenty of salivation in the aftertaste. Big, full throat feel. Just under the surface of the lingering sweetness in the mouth and throat lies a refreshing cooling sensation. It settles very comfortably in the belly, for all its brightness and pizzazz it’s still a very balanced tea. No hint of that scratchy feeling in the tummy that you sometimes find in less than optimally oxidized oolong tea.
If you like high mountain oolong just a tad punchy, this is the one for you. It’s got a fantastic, well structured broth and a bright, uplifting profile.
